Pulau Jerejak
 While in Penang a couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit Jerejak Tropical Resort, a joint development by UDA Holdings and Penang Development Corporation. The only thing I knew about Jerejak was that its name was synonimous with prisoners - a.k.a the malaysian Alcatraz. Prior to that it was a leper colony before it was turned into a criminal detention center. The idea of turning it into a resort sounded weird at first, how could the stigma of lepers and prisoners be stripped away from the 'Jerejak' name and change our perceptions to imagine a tropical resort instead? Well perhaps its history will ignite our curiosity and they can use it to their advantage to attract visitors. The resort provides a big boat to ferry visitors back and forth from the resorts jetty just a few minutes from the Penang bridge. A 5 minute ride and you're there. The resort provides accomodation for all income groups, theres the budget (hostel) style (circa RM40/person), a medium range hotel room concept, and the high range Chalets on the hills for families (about RM400/chalet).  The plus points are : no vehicles allowed on the island (except the resort buggies) more than half of the island will be state forest reserve many nature trails for the nature lover to hike and watch wildlife spa facilities for the chalet dwellers good place for a quiet getaway the only slack is that there arent any sandy beaches you'd expect from an island resort. The emmisions from the factories accross on the mainland is another damper and when the currents are not in your favor, you'll get to see tons of rubbish and plastic bags floating around the area between the island and Penang island industrial area.

hai, disini saya ingin mengemukan cadangan. saya tidak bersetuju jika Nashur Amir( bakal sebagai waitter berkerja ) sebenarnya dia mempunyai pelbagai masalah disiplin. saya amat berkeras sama sekali.

Well I honestly don't know.. don't think there are any other resorts in Jerejak, and this resort does have a spa centre which all chalet residents can use..

At 3rd jan I go to pulau jerejak beach stay 1 night.We go there without any submition to the dept. incharge. Of coz, we had to move away the beach near to the resort.Actualy there "the beach" is full of rubbish...the 2nd place that we choose to stay 1 night "the beach" is too many rubbish. After we almost clear it,some passgers talk us that the point we stay will be become "sea" at night. So we had to move from there when that time already 7pm something...
Finally we champ at the "old jetty". When the pic coming out I'll try to show on.

Tindakan pihak pengurusan Jerejak Resort menaikkan harga tambang ferry RM6.00 (Dewasa) ke RM15.00 pada tahun Baru Cina dianggap satu keputusan yang salah dari segi undang-undang (Kementerian Perdagangan dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna). Ini jelas menunjukkan bahawa pihak pengurusan Resort ingin mengambil kesempatan untuk mengaut keuntungan sesama hari Cuti Umum.
Diharap pihak pengurusan Resort kembali kepada harga asal sebelum KPHEP mengambil tindakan.
Harga yang tertera di Papan Kenyataan jelas membuktikan bahawa tambang pergi balik bagi Dewasa RM6.00 namum apabila pengunjung hendak membeli tiket, pekerja Resort memberitahu bahawa tambangnya adalah RM15.00, cara ini dianggap sebagai satu penipuan yang jelas.
Sila ambil tindakan sebelum didedahkan di kepada pihak NTV7 (7 di pihak Anda)

Saya ingin mengucap tahniah kepada Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang, kerana dengan bantu UDA dan jabatan-jabatan lain Pulau Jerejak dapat dimajukan dan dibuka kepada orang ramai untuk tujuan pelancongan dan riadah. Walau bagaimanapun saya ada beberapa cadangan:
i. Perbanyakkan publisiti kepada orang-orang tempatan khasnya dalam media Bahasa Melayu dan Cina.
ii. Etika memajukan perlancongan dan perusahaan mesti ada, harga tidak berubah mengikut musim dan adil kepada semua pelancong.
iii. Peraturan penguatkuasaan menjaga kebersihan dan harta awam mestilah dilaksanakan supaya usaha memajukan P Jerejak berjaya dan "tahan lama".
iv. Pakej yg ditawarkan mestilah mampu dibiayai oleh orang tempatan. Pakej yg istimewa juga perlu disediakan bagi pelajar-pelajar dan institusi pengajian tinggi.

here, i would like to give a few of comment about Jerejak resort & spa, this resort really not as good as i think after i stay there one night. I stay in the adventure room which each of the room didnt provide tv. this make me feel so bored during night. And the services in the hotel also not proffesional. For example, I had change 3 room just because of the bathroom didnt have enough water to bath espcially hot water...I hope that they will be improve in the future.

Without any interference from Jerejak resort and Spa Management, Jerejak is a nice island for adventure and hiking.
Not worth going by paying RM15 for a distance less than a km. I might as well hire a fisherman sampan for a mere RM2 per trip.!
To Jerejak Resort and Spa Management: pls don't "spoil" this island by imposing absurd charges.....you just lost another potential tourist.....

I also add.. today, my dad took us children for a trip to Pulau Jerejak. We have our own sampan and as usual, a boat ride is our family treasure. When our sampan reached the jetty at Pulau Jerejak, we were chased away by 2 men ( i guess they were either ferry captain or guards)saying "Kalau nak mai sini, kena naik bot kami".
We were so shocked by their attitude! They even dare said "Pi kompain lah!"... So what we went there in our own sampan? Not that we dont wanna pay $15 each to get there...
What I can tell from this place is that it is obvious that the ferry company want to dominate and be the only one supplying transportation to that Pulau... And also obvious that they wont be making friendly gestures to welcome customers who have own from of transportation to get there... I'd say, that the had lost some profit from their "bodoh sombong" attitude!
to those who plan to go there... I'd suggest that you guys go someplace else. Not because of the way I was treated but because it is a fact that the island is surrounded by garbage, especially when tides change. There are 90% rocky beached full of sampah. Only the beach in front of the challet is usable, but then again it is very small and dirty. My dad has been fishing around the place for over 20 years and believe me when I said that there are really a lot of biawak and ular bisa... cos i have seen them my self while boating around the island this evening...
And frankly, it is really nothing there.

i wish to comment that the resort services are very bad. the ferry fare very expensive, they charge RM15 or if include food is RM29++ and the foods are not nice. if you go for any activites, all are talking about money. the historical places like the prisoners stay at the pondok built by last time, they became a stor for their contractor. this is the historical places which are so meaning for this island become a rubbish bin for them.
it is not worth it to go there now since they only expose 10% of the island and the hotel are very very bad services and nothing fun there. the beach were so dirty too.

I would like to suggest to the resort owner to organize a cross channel swimming competition from Bayan Lepas industrial Zone to Pulau Jerejak.
I am very sure if they organize this kind of activities...... will sure attract a lot of paticipants from all over the place. This is because there are no such competitions being held in Malaysia after the cross channel Marang in Terengganu few years back.
Lots of people are hunger for this type of competition. This competition can be categorized into few categories according to age and since it is not far away, the organizer should consider a swim for to and fro from Bayan lepas FIZ to pulau jerejak and back to Bayan lepas FIZ. this is just a brief idea.

Swimming competition from Bayan Lepas to Pulau jerejak? I hope you are kidding. Have u see the sea condition along that area.???????? Literally, everywhere, there is a some trash bag floating or some durian skin floating. I will also wont be surprised if there are toxic waste in that area. Peace.

I would like to know for a concise information, what's the Real Ferry Fare (For a group of students) nowadays to Jerejak Island???? I opened the Jerejak Spa n Resort Website, they said it's RM 10 for Adult. But Then Some People said it's RM 6. While some visitors said they just paid RM 2.00 Something. Hope You can give me some possible explainations and also concise informations. Regards! Thank You.
